We continue to improve comprehensive traceability in the wine supply chain with blockchain and RFID

Laia Ventura,

The Bodega Digital project, promoted by the consortium coordinated by Clúster Digital de Catalunya, with Grupo ICA, Quabu Solutions, Winelo, La Vinyeta and Recaredo and the INNOVI cluster as partners, begins its second phase with a clear vision: to improve the management of inventory and traceability in the wine supply chain.

Phase 2 of the project focuses on unifying Blockchain and Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology in a single project to optimize the logistics processes involved in the entire wine value chain. The project aims to provide professionals in the sector with useful tools to help them make decisions in their day-to-day life.

Key Objectives of Phase 2:

  • Development of the Blockchain-RFID-IOT Platform: Create a platform that allows the precise tracking of wine bottles from the moment they are put in boxes until they arrive at the final consumer, using Blockchain, RFID and Internet of Things technologies ( IoT).
  • Integration of IoT Devices for Wine Transport: Implement identification systems with IoT sensors to monitor wine transport, ensuring full traceability and in real time.
  • Implementation of an RFID-based platform that optimizes warehouse management in wineries.
  • Validation of Traceability in Complex Environments: Overcoming bottle inventory challenges with RFID in environments with added complexity such as liquids.

With this Phase 2, the Bodega Digital project takes significant steps towards digital transformation and improving the competitiveness of the wine supply chain, contributing to sustainable growth and consumer confidence in the sector.
