Success in the first Session of the Digital Cluster Shared Value Training Program

Marta Segarra,

In a day marked by enthusiasm and active participation, 7 participating companies attended the first session of the Shared Value Training Program, an initiative promoted by the Digital Cluster in collaboration with ACCIÓ and Roots for Sustainability (R4S) that offers a unique opportunity to explore the principles of shared value and corporate sustainability.

This first session, which was held in person at the DayOne offices in La Caixa, aimed to give the companies participating in the project the opportunity to learn more about the program, practical cases, benchmark companies and expected benefits of Shared Value as well as to generate strategies in the sector through dynamics by groups.

The conference began with a welcome by the Cluster and Action, followed by an introductory dynamic aimed at getting to know the participating companies and creating a participatory and collaborative atmosphere. Then, R4S delved into the definition of shared value and corporate sustainability, highlighting its integration into companies and its strategic importance. The session continued to explore the generation of shared value in the digital sector, breaking down the necessary steps to integrate sustainability into the company, which have a lot to do with leadership and resources, the business model, culture and communication, purpose and focus and the “walk the talk” that is, integration through annual action plans. The importance of the purpose of the company as a flagship of this transformation was also highlighted, since it is traditionally related to the value that the product and/or service of this brings to society.

After a break to rest, and take strength, the day resumed with a second part dedicated to the social and environmental problems that specifically affect the digital sector. Four main ones were identified: lack of access, diversity and talent retention, computer security and data management ethics, lack of digital tools with ESG criteria, and environmental impact.

It also focused on methods through which value can be generated for society and for digital businesses. In this sense, the Impact Business Models (MNI), operational practices with sustainability criteria, the inclusive and sustainable value chain, and local and purpose-driven community action were highlighted.

All this analysis was exemplified with cases of good practices, as is the case of the Danish company Specialisterne, which is dedicated to the labor inclusion of people with autism and other neurodiversities.
The day ended with a dynamics of collective work that provided an opportunity for participating companies to better understand how the identified problems affect cluster companies and the digital sector in general, as well as to identify business ideas and opportunities in which to work together to deal with them.

The session concluded with the presentation of the next steps in the execution of the project, where the participating companies will be able to familiarize themselves with the B Corp movement and with the use of the standard. The next session, scheduled for November 28, will continue to offer participants an opportunity to exchange ideas and establish solid bases for the implementation of sustainable practices in their companies. The closing session of the program is scheduled for February 22.

This project not only seeks economic growth, but also the positive impact on the community and the environment, consolidating the commitment of the Digital Cluster to the construction of a conscious and sustainable business fabric.
